How Netflix Has Affected Big TV Networks?

Netflix Has 45% Fewer Movies (and 400% More TV Shows) Than it Did in 2010 - TV[R]EV

Netflix swept over the world of entertainment and changed its outlook worldwide. With over 167 million subscribers, Netflix is one of the most popular platforms that provide entertainment on the go. It gained its popularity on the premise of allowing people to have millions of choices in shows, movies, documentaries, etc. by cutting cords and getting rid of their cable connections.

A massive number of people all over the world including the US choose to watch Netflix with a bill of under $20. Being a subscriber of Spectrum deals and Netflix, I am thrilled to watch what I want, whenever and wherever. Unfortunately, the rise of platforms like Netflix has been the downfall of many cable TV networks.

The Origin of Netflix

Netflix began its journey in 1997 as a website that provided DVD rental services. People who wanted a certain DVD could rent it through Netflix. Their package was delivered by mail, and they used to return it in the same way. The business has evolved even since and has grown in various ways.

How Is Netflix Influencing Big TV Networks?

Many cable TV networks are losing their subscribers to services like Netflix. The main reason behind their struggle is that Netflix houses a huge online library of content and produces its own original content as well. It would not be wrong to say that Netflix has completely disrupted and changed the face of the entertainment industry.

Netflix offers a more efficient and flexible service as compared to cable TV networks. Therefore, it continues to influence big TV networks by forcing them to rethink their approach to presenting entertainment. Here are 4 ways Netflix continues to affect big TV networks.

#1. Massive Library of Content

It is an undisputed fact that Netflix houses a massive content library including TV shows, movies, documentaries, and so on. From previously aired content to currently on-going ones, subscribers get access to it all. The content of every genre is at the fingertips of the subscribers. The biggest plus is that you are not bound to one location, unlike your cable TV networks. This content can be accessed from anywhere in the world as long as you are connected to the internet.

Another huge benefit is that you can download the shows on your device and watch them later without needing an internet connection.

#2. Netflix Originals

As soon as Netflix ventured into producing its own content, it became a massive hit and ruled over the world. Everyone was talking about the Netflix Originals series. The plots backed by strong stories, the marvelous casting, and spectacular performances won the hearts of millions of people all over the globe. The original content became one of the pillars for Netflix’s outstanding popularity and gave it millions of loyal subscribers.

#3. The Trend of Binge-Watching

Since people get access to entire seasons that were aired on TV sometime, it gave a boost to the binge-watching trend. Subscribers love the convenience of being able to watch as many shows as they want as they don’t have to wait for a whole week to get the next episode for their favorite show. Netflix gained its favor for providing people with this comfort and convenience at much cheaper rates.

#4. The Wave of Streaming Content via the Internet

In the late 2000s, the availability of high-speed internet became a reality. People could afford to stream online content without having to go through the excruciating pain of buffering and low picture qualities. Paired with high-speed internet connection availability, Netflix transformed the world of entertainment.

It also inspired many cable service providers to follow in its footsteps. A few cable TV service providers such as Spectrum TV now offer their own TV application where you can stream content online. Netflix is still ruling the hearts of millions of people by striving to provide affordability with flexibility, and unlimited choices of content.
